Using a hand litho press, Ormsby prints his images onto acid-free archival paper. The handprinted lithograph of the grizzly bear was made with six lithographic printing plates for separately printing each layer of color. Each color of ink is hand-rolled onto the plate a number of times, then cranked through the press. The sequence of images shown to the right reveals how the print evolves as each color is added. The artist is printing an edition of 200 prints. Each one is printed in six colors on Rives BFK paper, an acid-free French paper with deckles on four sides. The paper size is 26 inches wide x 22.5 inches deep; the image is 20 inches wide x 16 inches deep. Each print is unique. No two prints are alike because various amounts of ink occur as a result of the handwork. Each is signed and number by artist and available in a cardboard carton with authentification documents. |
